What to Expect During Your Examination
A Comprehensive Vascular Physiologic Study is a safe, painless, and noninvasive examination that provides a detailed assessment of blood flow in your arms or legs. The study typically takes 45–60 minutes, and you can return to your normal activities immediately afterward.

During the examination, you will be asked to lie comfortably on an examination table while a vascular technologist performs a series of specialized physiologic vascular tests. Depending on the reason for your examination, blood pressure cuffs may be placed on your arms, thighs, calves, ankles, fingers, or toes to measure circulation at multiple levels of the extremity.

Additional testing may include Doppler waveform analysis, Pulse Volume Recordings (PVR), Photoplethysmography (PPG), Digital Pressure measurements, Ankle-Brachial Index (ABI), Toe-Brachial Index (TBI), and Segmental Pressure measurements, depending on your symptoms and clinical needs. You will feel brief squeezing sensations as the blood pressure cuffs inflate, but the examination is generally very comfortable. There are no needles, injections, contrast dye, or radiation involved.

Once all measurements have been completed, the cuffs and sensors are removed, and your examination is finished.
